David Maung is an American photographer who has photographed extensively at the U.S.-Mexico border, where he has developed a keen and intimate understanding of the complex and dynamic issues that define the region.

His work has appeared in publications such as The New York Times, Life, The Washington Post, European Pressphoto Agency, Catholic News Service, Al-Jazeera, Der Spiegel, Courrier International, Gatopardo, Proceso, Smithsonian, among others. His work has been exhibited in the United States, Germany, Mexico and Colombia.

As an educator, David organizes workshops and activities to foment dialogue on the ethics, aesthetics and social responsibility of photography.

His personal photography work gives him a chance to reflect on his perceptions of place and the passage of time, which provides a welcome counterbalance to his work as a photojournalist.
